Referral Content & Urgency

Complete referrals enable Dr. Kahokehr to triage accurately and prepare for the consultation. Please include all relevant clinical information at the time of referral.

What to Include

  • Referral letter with clinical indication and relevant history
  • Patient demographics and Medicare / DVA details
  • Relevant pathology: PSA, MSU, creatinine, FBC
  • Imaging reports (CT, ultrasound, MRI) and discs where available
  • Current medications, especially anticoagulants and antiplatelets
  • Allergy and adverse reaction list
  • Significant co-morbidities and anaesthetic considerations
  • Your direct contact details for results and correspondence

Referral Urgency Tiers

Urgent Seen within 1–2 weeks
  • Gross haematuria (painless or recurrent)
  • Acute or recurrent urinary retention
  • Suspected urological malignancy
  • Testicular mass, firmness or pain
Semi-Urgent Typically 2–4 weeks
  • Rising PSA or significantly elevated PSA
  • Abnormal digital rectal examination (DRE)
  • Frank haematospermia
Routine Typically 4–8 weeks
  • Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) / voiding difficulties
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Renal colic follow-up
  • Vasectomy consultation

GP referrals to a specialist are valid for 12 months for ongoing conditions and 3 months for a single acute condition. Non-GP specialist referrals are valid for 3 months. Our team will contact the patient within two business days of receiving the referral to arrange an appointment.

Correspondence & Results

Dr. Kahokehr is committed to timely, detailed communication with referring practitioners. The following standards apply to all consultations.

Results via HealthLink / Medical Objects

All consultation letters and investigation results are returned electronically to the referring GP via HealthLink or Medical Objects where applicable, ensuring secure and efficient delivery.

Dictated Letters Within 48 Hours

Consultation letters are dictated and dispatched within 48 hours of the appointment. Letters include clinical findings, management plan, and follow-up requirements.

Urgent Findings — Same-Day Phone Contact

Where urgent or unexpected findings are identified at consultation, Dr. Kahokehr will contact the referring practitioner directly by phone on the same day.

Patient Appointment Within 2 Business Days

Our reception team will contact the patient within two business days of receiving a referral to schedule their appointment at the most convenient location.

For clinical questions prior to or following a referral, contact our rooms directly during consulting hours (Mon–Fri 8:00 am–5:00 pm, Sat 9:00 am–1:00 pm).
